The Walking Dead has resumed production on Season 8 following a stoppage due to a fatal on-set accident, says The Hollywood Reporter. Bernecker died from injuries suffered in a fall some five hours earlier on the hit show's set in Senoia, about 35 miles (56 kilometres) south of Atlanta, Hawk said. The cause of death was accidental blunt-force trauma, the coroner said.

"Our production is heartbroken by the tragic loss", showrunner and executive producer Gimple said in a statement obtained by ABC News. "We are grateful for his contributions, and all of us send our condolences, love, and prayers to John's family and friends".

Bernecker was one of the most prolific stunt performers in the business, with over 100 credits to his name in the past seven years, including The Hunger Games, Logan and the upcoming Marvel movie Black Panther.

AMC, the network that airs "The Walking Dead", said in a statement Friday that Bernecker's family had chose to donate his organs. John's work on The Walking Dead and dozens of other movies and shows will continue to entertain and excite audiences for generations.
