After the man was arrested, the agent found a large drone hidden nearby in a bush.

On August 8, at about 11:25 p.m., a Border Patrol agent observed a drone fly over the border fence at an area approximately two miles west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

Sixty people who were concealed within a load of iced-down produce were rescued Saturday by Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said. Other agents in the area were immediately placed on the lookout for the drone, said CBP officials.

An agent on an all-terrain vehicle spotted a male suspect at about 11:40 p.m. near the border at Servano Avenue and Valentino Street.

Agents seized about 13 pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of approximately $46,000.

"Due to the agents' heightened vigilance, this drone smuggling scheme was stopped before these unsafe narcotics could enter our communities", said Acting Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Boone Smith.

A 25-year-old man was recently arrested after he allegedly used a drone to smuggle several pounds of methamphetamine over the border. The drone was about 2 feet tall.
