Ever since the revival of Roseanne was announced, fans have been wondering how the new iteration would address the original series finale, in which Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) revealed that her husband Dan (John Goodman) had died, and that numerous later events in the series were just stories she'd written as part of the grieving process.

ABC is still in talks with Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki to return for the upcoming Roseanne revival, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said Sunday at the 2017 TCA Summer Press Tour. Dungey simply said, "Those conversations are still in progress".

Dungey also said that while the show's finale would not be ignored, Goodman's Dan will be alive in the new series (he was revealed in the finale to have died.) "I can confirm that Dan is still alive", Dungey said. "What we've heard from Roseanne is she's very excited about the show and she is going to be on the show", she said.

The ABC chief also assured reporters that the new series, under the guidance of executive producer Tom Werner, would be similar in tone and approach the the original's fondly remembered early seasons - and not its much-maligned final season. "We've now heard the broad strokes of the creative for these 8 episodes, and feel confident that it's going to return to the show that everyone knew and loved".

Roseanne will begin shooting in October Gungey confirmed.
